The problem

General-purpose AI tools can produce case citations that do not exist, and a fabricated citation in a legal filing is a serious professional risk. For Indian advocates the gap is wider: Hindi-medium advocates are poorly served by English-only tools, the 2023 move from the IPC and CrPC to the BNS and BNSS means two sets of section numbers are in use, and statutory deadlines in matters such as SARFAESI, DRT and Section 138 have to be tracked.

Citizens have a different problem: accessible, plain-language guidance on their rights, notices and complaints, in Hindi or English.

What we built

One platform with separate workspaces for each kind of user.

Citizen Panel

An AI legal consultant in Hindi or English, 18 document templates (notices, contracts and matrimonial documents), 13 bilingual Know Your Rights cards with audio, voice input, document OCR, and a case manager with CNR lookup.

Advocate Studio Pro

Research with live Indian Kanoon retrieval, drafting from 46 templates across eight practice areas, answers written natively in Hindi, dual BNS and BNSS citation, and a case manager with hearing timeline, voice dictation and PDF briefs.

Corporate Intelligence Suite

Templates for NCLT, IBC, SEBI and commercial matters, a compliance calendar by entity type, a multi-client matter tracker and a live regulatory feed covering SEBI, MCA, RBI and IBC. Beta, by invitation.

Banking Recovery Suite

A matter-management and drafting workspace for SARFAESI, DRT/DRAT and Section 138 recovery work. Beta, by invitation. See the separate case study.

How the research works

The system is built so the model is not asked to recall case law from memory.

The user asks a research question.
The system retrieves real cases from Indian Kanoon before any answer is generated.
The AI is constrained to cite only the cases it retrieved, using a tagged citation format.
Each cited case links through to the full judgment, so the citation can be checked.
Where the system is not certain, it is instructed to say so with an explicit uncertainty tag rather than guess.
Research is laid out in the CREAC format: Conclusion, Rule, Explanation, Application, Conclusion.

Where it stands

Nyaya Saathi is live at legalaidai.in with its Citizen and Advocate modules. The Corporate Intelligence and Banking Recovery suites are in beta by invitation, and the Revenue & Land Acquisition add-on unlocks with an invite code. English and Hindi are supported today, with further Indian languages planned.

The product describes itself as providing general legal information and AI-assisted drafting, not legal advice, and states that AI-generated documents need review by a licensed advocate. This case study describes what the platform does; it does not claim measured outcomes.
